About Me – My Story with QR Codes and scanmy.ch
I still remember the exact moment when I truly understood what a QR code can do.
It was a beautiful afternoon in Langenthal, and I was waiting for a client. I was sitting in a café, the Wi-Fi was slow, and besides waiting I had nothing to do except play with my phone. On my coffee cup there was a small black-and-white QR code. Underneath it said: “Scan for more information.”
Curious, I scanned it. Instantly, a webpage opened showing the origin of the coffee, the roastery, even a video of the farmer who harvested the beans. I was amazed how much story could be stored in such a small square. Back then, I thought QR codes were just digital labels.
My First Contact with QR Codes in Marketing
A few weeks later, I attended a trade fair in Bern (BEA), where I wanted to distribute flyers at my booth. Classic paper flyers – printed, expensive and instantly outdated when something changes.
So I thought: “Why not use QR codes on my flyers?”
I started by using static QR codes for cost reasons, which I created myself. Dynamic QR codes were simply too expensive for me at that time.
But this is where I paid a lot of learning money.
I produced countless flyers, advertising boards and stickers that I later had to replace because a website or campaign changed. Looking back, I lost a lot of money – just because the QR code wasn’t flexible.
The Breakthrough: Dynamic QR Codes
That was the moment I truly discovered dynamic QR codes.
I was immediately fascinated:
A static QR code is like a stone – once printed, it stays the same forever.
A dynamic QR code, however, is flexible: the code remains the same, but the destination behind it can be changed anytime.
I tested it immediately.
On my flyers, the QR code first led to an event page. When the location changed later, I simply updated the destination in the system – no reprinting, no additional costs.
I scanned it again and immediately saw the new page.
It felt like a small technological “aha moment”.
Why I Built My Own QR Code Generator
Since I distribute over 50,000 flyers per year at trade fairs, I quickly realized I needed a long-term and affordable solution for dynamic QR codes.
I searched for a suitable provider but couldn’t really find one. Many solutions were either too expensive or required high monthly or yearly fees.
That’s exactly what bothered me.
And that’s exactly where my journey began.
I decided to understand the technology myself and develop my own solution – with my own server and software. For about two to three years, I became my own QR code provider.
During this time, I was at a training camp and accompanied my son Alex for two weeks at a hockey camp. While he was training, I used the time to set up my first server and build the foundation of my system.
The Creation of scanmy.ch
After these first years, I realized that this solution should not exist just for me.
I decided to further develop the service, rebuild it and make it accessible to others. I set up a new server, installed the software and continuously improved the QR code generator.
That’s how www.scanmy.ch was created – a simple, fast and affordable dynamic QR code generator from Switzerland.
Today, over 1000 satisfied users use my service – at a price that is hard to beat.
What QR Codes Mean to Me Today
Over time, I started seeing QR codes everywhere – on posters, in museums, on tickets and in campaigns. I realized that many of them already use dynamic systems that can flexibly control content and even measure how often they are used.
I even implemented a small marketing campaign: two landing pages (A and B) were delivered via the same QR code depending on time or user group. It was exciting to see how a simple code became a real, measurable marketing tool.
Today, I no longer see QR codes as simple links. For me, they are small digital portals – simple but extremely powerful. And this is where dynamic QR codes unlock their full potential: content stays flexible without replacing the code itself.
My Motivation
I realized early that many companies, organizations and self-employed people face the same problem: QR codes are printed – and then cannot be changed.
The solution is actually simple: a flexible, affordable system that can be adjusted anytime.
This is exactly why I created my own project: a dynamic QR code generator that solves this problem.
I wanted to build something simple, without technical barriers, and that solves real-world problems – without high ongoing costs.

This is how scanmy.ch was created – not as a big business strategy, but from many real experiences, mistakes and moments where I thought:
